“In this dissertation I explore the connection between gender, organizational change and career development. I take as my point of departure both male-dominated engineering organizations and female-dominated nursing organizations which have undergone restructuring processes. First, I ask how the power relations between men and women have been affected. Second, how we should understand and conceptualize gender relations in organizations from the perspectives of feminist theory and organization theory.
My work explores what has been labelled a Norwegian paradox: while women have increased their participation in the working world and in politics, making Norway today one of the countries with the highest rates of working women and highest percentages of women in politics, the representation of women in positions of power in work organizations is still one of the lowest in the Western world.“
