The topic of this book is the interaction of ’labour’ and ’love’ in modern society, the curious ways in which these separate modes of being in the world interrelate, how they create gender and are themselves created by it. The essays presented are mediations on a wide field of empirical research, yet the discussions are mainly of a theoretical nature, contributing to interdisciplinary social science and feminist and critical perspectives. The empirical concern of the present collection is work organization as well as symbolic organization, erotism as well as money. At first glance this represents a bewildering array of phenomena. Still, the contributions have a common orientation and approach.
